DETAILED OVERVIEW
The well-proportioned interior layout by Nauta Design allowed us the freedom to draw a fair, undistorted hull with moderate beam. The moderately aggressive stem slope is married with a small amount of hollow in the lower forward waterlines to maximize sailing length in a sleek yet powerful shape. The powerful shape is carried through to the stern and transom providing generous volume for the crew and galley areas aft. The wide aft sections maximize effective sailing length at high speeds without adversely affecting handling.
The “T” keel configuration chosen for SW100 “Mrs. Seven” gives the best balance between hydrodynamic performance, longitudinal weight balance and high stability. The fabricated steel fin is shaped to our proprietary, computer designed airfoil sections for maximum lift with minimum drag. The torpedo bulb shape is a direct descendent of America’s Cup and Volvo 70 design work.
The rig is designed to provide the ample power necessary to achieve the target light wind boat speeds with the flexibility (through multiple available sail combinations) to maintain excellent performance coupled with comfort and safety throughout the wind range. Security comes from having the right amount of sail area and the right balance for all wind conditions. The overall size of the rig ensures excellent performance and a rewarding sailing experience in light winds. The desire to start the engine only comes to mind in winds of less than 6 knots.
The combination of light displacement, PBO rigging on a light, carbon mast and a deep VCG, “T” style keel has produced impressive performances. SW100 “Mrs. Seven” has to date achieved a top speed of 30 knots, a tribute to the power and easy handling characteristics of the yacht and representative of the extreme confidence held by crew in their vessel.
