Designer’s Notes

This design adds further to our range of contemporary yachts designed without consideration of rating rules to give comfortable, fast, and enjoyable sailing within the bounds of sensible economics. There is nothing complex or revolutionary about this boat and the layouts above and below decks reflect a straightforward approach. In a yacht of this size there is scope for variations to suit individual ideas and to provide generous space in galley, head, and saloon, as well as comfortably accommodating a large crew if required. We have shown separate cabins forward and aft (port quarter) with extra berths opposite the head that can serve as storage or become locker space if not required. An L-shaped dinette is favored to allow a 'dance floor' forward of the table - something which proved very successful on our 13m "KAILUA". The generous cockpit shows wheel steering (tiller optional) and wide side decks make for easy working on deck. The rig utilizes our new widely used 13/16 swept spreader arrangement giving simplicity and control through the topmast backstay. Spinnakers are flown from slightly above the forestay and on a long pole for good performance reaching and running. The hull form is moderately light in displacement and beam with powerful sections, wide stern, and fine bow, producing a powerful yacht that gives excellent performance to windward, especially in open water. Overall, this yacht is a superb cruiser for local or long distance sailing, and certainly performs with credit against those 'enthusiasts' who are sure their boats are unbeatable.
