Designer’s Notes

Design #369 Farr 45 September 1996 The Farr 45 project is the result of extensive studies of the current market place, new construction techniques and the IMS rule trends by the combined resources of Farr Yacht Design, Stagg Yachts and Carroll Marine. This study indicated that there was a clear opening for an economical, high performance race boat that could benefit from new technologies and give a strong promise of prolonged competitive life (good resale value) in IMS, PHRF, CHS and One Design regattas. At Farr Yacht Design, Ltd. the IMS rule is under continuous analysis through our involvement in Grand Prix programs. Complementing this is FYD's experience with the design (and Stagg Yachts's experience with the administration) of the very successful MUMM 36 and MUMM 30 One Design programs, and the 39ML IMS/PHRF project. This enormous wealth of knowledge and experience was used in developing the Farr 45.
