Mike joined Farr Yacht Design in May 2013 as a Design Engineer upon graduating from the University of Michigan with a Master’s of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. His responsibilities include structural calculations, creating construction drawings, and Finite Element Analysis.
While studying an under graduate, Mike served as an intern at Reichel Pugh Yacht Design and FYD. From these experiences he discovered a passion for the construction and structural aspects of yacht design and thus focused his graduate studies on composite materials and Finite Element Analysis.
Originally from southern Indiana, Mike grew up sailing on small lakes and yearned to trade the endless fields of corn for open water and a consistent breeze. While attending U of M, Mike gained racing experience by joining the university sailing team where he competed regularly in both dinghy and keelboat regattas.
Upon moving to the Annapolis area with his wife Ashley, Mike continues to improve his sailing skills and knowledge by racing frequently on a variety of boats on the Chesapeake Bay.
